The Mardi Gras spirit is alive and well in New Orleans this week as Carnival Cruise Line prepares for the first revenue sailing of its new Carnival Breeze Class vessel, Carnival Liberty. Cruising to New Orleans aboard Carnival Liberty is one of those bucket list items that many people have, and Carnival has come through with the best cruise experience possible.
Carnival Cruise Line is heading to New Orleans for the first time this spring to join the party for Carnival’s first Mardi Gras sailing. Carnival will have three ships in port for the big party, including the Carnival Magic, which dedicated their hull in honor of Mardi Gras festivities. Carnival Magic’s home port will be at Port Canaveral, Florida, and she will officially go into service on April 7. Carnival Magic is a 4,000 passenger ship, designed for both cruising and cruising, and also features a unique Carnival Spirit Lounge, which will offer guests several social and entertainment options. Carnival Cruise Line announced today that the first three of its four Carnival Victory class ships will begin revenue sailing on February 17, 2011. Carnival Cruise Line is gearing up for the launch of its new flagship on July 31. There will be much going on in the lead-up to the highly-anticipated new Carnival cruise ship’s departure from Port Canaveral, Florida, with so much curiosity.
The cruise company is finalizing plans for the first voyage. We’ll look at the Carnival Brand Ambassador’s upcoming releases as well as the agenda for the pre-inaugural voyage on July 31.
Mardi Gras Preparation Schedule
The excitement has only grown since Mardi Gras landed at her new homeport in the United States for the first time on June 4th. The ship is Carnival Cruise Line’s biggest ever, and it introduces a slew of unique onboard experiences that set it apart from the rest of the fleet.
Carnival Voyage Line Ambassador John Heald has been covering the Mardi Gras nonstop, but the excitement is building as the ship approaches her maiden commercial cruise in little over a week. Heald has released a timetable in response to many cruisers’ questions about what Carnival is doing in the lead-up to the departure.

Carnival Cruise Line Announces August Restart Schedule, Which Includes Mardi Gras
Heald is flying to Miami to prepare for the new cruise ship, and the cruise line Ambassador will be on board on Sunday, July 25 for a walkaround and shooting. While the ship is moored at PortMiami, Carnival Cruise Line shoreside employees from the Miami offices will spend the day aboard. This will allow Carnival employees to get a better understanding of the new vessel, allowing them to offer greater customer care to customers.
The Mardi Gras will leave PortMiami in the morning on July 26 and go north to Port Canaveral, the ship’s home port. Heald will be on board to begin shooting the various cabin options available at Mardi Gras.
The Carnival cruise ship will stay at Port Canaveral on Tuesday, July 27-30, and Heald will continue to upload footage showing the ship. He intends to give further information on the meals, entertainment options, and interviews with people engaged in the ship’s design and executives. On the 30th, there will be an event on board where travel agencies may get a first glimpse at the ship.

Departure on July 31st
Mardi Gras will end on July 31 after several days and almost a year later than initially intended. This will certainly be massive, but paying passengers will finally get the opportunity to board the Carnival fleet’s biggest and most sophisticated ship.
Heald will be on board for the maiden trip and will continue to upload videos so that anybody who follows him can see what’s going on and what the new ship is like with passengers on board.

The Mardi Gras will set sail on a seven-day Eastern Caribbean trip at approximately 4:00 p.m. Before returning to Port Canaveral on August 7, the ship will spend three days at sea and visit three ports.
The first port of call will be San Juan, Puerto Rico, with the Mardi Gras becoming the first cruise ship to return to the Caribbean port. The second stop will be in the Dominican Republic, at Carnival’s exclusive resort Amber Cove, while the third and final call will be in Nassau, Bahamas.
Passengers will also be able to see the new LaunchPad Terminal 3 facility at Port Canaveral for the first time. Since 2024, the terminal has been waiting for the cruise industry to reopen.

Carnival Cruise Line’s new Excel-class ships fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG), such as the Mardi Gras, will use the facility. A new articulated tug and barge dubbed Q4K can refill Mardi Gras with ecologically friendly gasoline at the site.
The Mardi Gras will travel between the Eastern and Western Caribbean on week-long itineraries. The ship has a gross tonnage of 180,800, with a passenger capacity of 5,282 at double occupancy and 1,735 crew members.
She has 15 passenger decks and the world’s first roller coaster, BOLT. Grand Central, French Quarter, Summer Landing, the Ultimate Playground, La Piazza, and Lido are just a few of the new venues and activities available aboard.
