Norwegian Cruise Line’s Miami facility was damaged by Hurricane Irma, causing the company to temporarily halt operations out of the city. Norwegian has since announced that Miami is ready to resume operations and will be fully operational by the end of October, which is progress. The company’s Miami operations will have the same amenities as the PortMiami facility, which is a huge step in the right direction.

Norwegian Cruise Line announced it is resuming operations from Miami, Florida, six months after docking at a port the company had previously closed due to a labor dispute.

Norwegian Cruise Line was forced to cease operations after the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a fine of $1,764,000 for failing to comply with the International Air Transportation Association (IATA) safety guidelines for cabin stowage of baggage and other items. The fine was levied in response to a complaint filed by the U.S. Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) in March. Norwegian USA, Inc. (NUSA) agreed to pay the fine and submitted an application for a variance to the DOT, which was granted on June 28.. “It’s been an exciting few weeks as we relaunch our fleet, reconnect with our onboard family, and welcome our passengers back for their long-awaited cruise vacations,” said Norwegian Cruise Line president and CEO Harry Sommer. “I’ve been pleased and proud of how our worldwide team and partners have worked together to bring cruising back to life, a $55 billion sector that has a beneficial effect on communities all over the world.”

Through October 17, 2024, Norwegian Gem will offer a series of week-long excursions to the Caribbean and four-day trips to the Bahamas. The ship will then conduct 11-night excursions to the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Bermuda from New York.

The Norwegian cruise ship is the first in the fleet to commence passenger operations from the cruise line’s new PortMiami Terminal, making the day even more memorable. The new facility can accommodate boats carrying up to 5,000 passengers and is 188,000 square feet in size, giving the port a fresh new appearance.

As part of the cruise line’s SailSAFE health and safety policy, all staff and passengers must be properly vaccinated. This is true for every ship in the NCL fleet.
