American Airlines announced that they will be selling their Flagship Lounges to anyone for $50,000. The company is hoping to raise up to $5 million by selling the experience of a lifetime.
American Airlines is selling a membership to its flagship lounge for $1,000. The company is doing this in an effort to raise money and increase revenue.

Starting Tuesday, September 14, any customer traveling an American Airlines or oneworld aircraft will be able to purchase entrance to its business class Flagship Lounges for $150 per person. Domestic travelers will be able to use this service as well. This cost is per day, not per visit, thus a traveler traveling through several cities having Flagship lounges on the same day may pay this amount to visit all of them.
News: Beginning tomorrow, American Airlines will make its premium Flagship Lounges accessible to the general public with a new $150 single-visit ticket. According to @AmericanAir, this isn’t simply a pandemic cash grab; it’s “permanent.” More information will be released soon!

This week, the flagship lounges reopen.
On Tuesday, American’s New York JFK lounge will reopen, followed by Flagship First Dining on Thursday. The Flagship lounge in Miami will debut on September 28th, followed by Flagship First Dining two days later.
The flagship lounges at Los Angeles International Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and Chicago O’Hare Airport will all debut “later this autumn.” The good news is that American has said that LAX Flagship Dining will reopen “not until 2024.”

Prior to the Pandemic, Premium Lounge Upsales were tested.
It’s not a novel concept to sell admission to these lounges. Paid access became available as part of a premium package with American’s Five Star airport concierge service. Unbundled access to Flagship lounge walk-ins is a new feature.
American conducted a test offering admission to Flagship First Dining to Executive Platinum and Concierge Key members for $150 just before the pandemic, and subsequently reduced the price to $100. That’s all reasonable, given that the Dining component (which includes premium beverages and champagne) is a high-end product that was, in some ways, being provided too cheaply for people prepared to drink their weight in Krug. However, this new pay-in option is exclusively for the Flagship lounge, not for Flagship first-class meals.
How Premium Passengers And Elites Normally Gain Access To Flagship Lounges And Dining
It’ll be fascinating to watch how this affects congestion – or if it does for the time being, given how restricted international business class travel is. Currently, the following people have access to Flagship lounges:
- Business and first class passengers flying on a oneworld airline to Asia, Australia or New Zealand, Europe, or South America (except Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela), as well as business and first class passengers flying premium transcon routes (New York – Los Angeles and San Francisco, and certain Miami and Boston – Los Angeles flights, as well as New York JFK – Orange County flights) are eligible.
- Passengers in business class on long-haul Hawaii flights
- Platinum and MVP Gold members of American Airlines and Alaska MVP Gold members of Alaska Airlines who are traveling to one of these qualifying locations on a oneworld carrier are eligible.
- Members of the oneworld sapphire and emerald programs who are traveling on any oneworld flight but American AAdvantage or Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan (including American and Alaska domestic flights)
- ConciergeKey members traveling domestically on a oneworld airline, such as American or Alaska, are eligible for a discount.
Access to Flagship First Dining is restricted to:
- Passengers traveling American Airlines’ three-cabin first class to Asia, Australia, Europe, or South America, or between New York and Los Angeles and San Francisco.
- To oneworld partners who have paid for access (such as British Airways for their first class passengers in some locations) and Concierge Key members who have been given a limited number of passes, as well as those who have been offered a buy-in option or who have purchased access through American’s Five Star premium ground service.
Passengers who pay in advance will now be able to join in on the fun.
