Royal Caribbean is preparing for the first-ever launch of a passenger cruise. It plans to demonstrate the newest line of cruise ships, the Symphony of the Seas next year. Cruise line officials say the cruise will hold up to 3,500 passengers and will feature state-of-the-art entertainment, luxury accommodations and dining.

Royal Caribbean, the cruise line known for its sprawling mega ships, will be offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for its guests. Starting later this year, Royal Caribbean will offer Test Cruises. These are a series of voyages that are designed to test a ship’s capabilities, while at the same time giving passengers a chance to see the world. On board, passengers will be paired up with a “Test Crew” and follow the instructions of the crew. The Royal Caribbean crew will be there to help with anything that may arise. Test Cruises last a few days, and passengers will be able to enjoy some of the same amenities as those who are traveling on the ship full-time.

As part of their effort to make the company more environmentally friendly, Royal Caribbean Cruises is in the process of testing a new docked cruise ship that will be powered by solar energy. The first of its kind, the all-electric ship will sail out of Miami in 2015, and the company is looking for volunteers to help test it and take part in the journey. “We’re approaching it in a very scientific way,” said Jean-Francois Page, the company’s director of sales and marketing. “We’re going to have to test it out and make sure it’s really viable.”. If you were one among the more than 350,000 cruise enthusiasts who signed up to volunteer for a Royal Caribbean International test voyage, your ship might be arriving any day now.

The cruise company announced on Facebook that it would soon begin selecting volunteers at random from its roster. They’ll get a free two-night trip on a ship that’ll be used to test new health procedures.

As part of the public health agency’s criteria to resume operations, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) gave cruise companies two options.

They may either agree to a vaccination rate of 98 percent for crew members and 95 percent for passengers, avoiding simulated sailings. Alternatively, as Royal Caribbean has done, they may perform test sailings with workers or volunteers serving as passengers for each ship returning.

“Now is the time!” exclaims the narrator. Volunteers are being told by Royal Caribbean.

To far, the test sailings of the Freedom of the Seas and Serenade of the Seas have been completed, with at least five more ships planned to sail in the coming weeks.

Since announcing the need for volunteers in November 2024, the cruise company has received over 350,000 registrations from passengers anxious to be among the first to sail again after the pandemic’s lengthy closure.

“It’s time!” exclaims the narrator. In a Facebook post, Royal Caribbean said. “After receiving over 350,000 applications from individuals interested in joining Royal Caribbean’s Volunteers of the Seas last year, we’ll be randomly choosing and inviting registered volunteers to participate in future simulation voyages this week.”

The cruise company said the random choices will be made this week, and that interested volunteers should check their email for updates in the following days.

  • Symphony of the Seas departs from PortMiami on August 1st.
  • Independence of the Seas – August 1 from Galveston, Texas
  • The Mariner of the Seas will depart from Port Canaveral on August 11th.
  • Oasis of the Seas departs from Cape Liberty on August 22.

Simulated sailings aboard the Ovation of the Seas and Odyssey of the Seas are among the upcoming events.

“I really miss RCL and the ocean.”

Despite the fact that Royal Caribbean claims the selection would be random, many volunteers expressed their enthusiasm and appropriateness in the comments section of the Facebook page.

Michelle Strickland stated, “I’m vaccinated and ready.” “To assist with my cruise withdrawal, I’ve started binge watching The Love Boat.”

“I’m a fully vaccinated emergency department registered nurse who wants a vacation!” Allison Craycraft said in her convincing pitch.

Another Facebook user, Veronica Goncalves, claimed she’ll play whatever part is required to get back on a ship. “I was ready, vaccinated, and had my things packed in a flash. I don’t mind being one of the ‘fake’ afflicted and being confined to my room. I’m really missing RCL and the ocean.”
