Alaska Airlines has announced that some of its economy fares will be reduced for the month of October to be more competitive with its main cabin and first class fares. Beginning December 2017, Alaska’s new Main Cabin fares will be available for roundtrip itineraries with a one-way purchase. The new Main Cabin fares will be available for travel on Mondays through Fridays between March 15, 2018 and April 5, 2018, with the exception of the following dates: March 22, and March 29.
Alaska Airlines has decided to increase the number of available seats on its three remaining long-haul routes, namely from Seattle to Anchorage, Seattle to Houston, and Seattle to San Diego. The airline will add 20 more seats each on these routes, which will now feature a first class cabin and business class with more legroom. These additional seats will be available for sale beginning in October.

Alaska Airlines is continuing to extend its in-flight food and beverage service as more passengers return to the skies, as part of a process that started earlier this year. On flights, the airline is reintroducing some of its trademark beverages, snacks, freshly cooked lunches, and hot entrees in a safe and considerate manner, depending on the duration of the journey.
On all flights above 670 miles and those longer than 1,100 miles, First Class customers may now choose from a larger variety of freshly cooked, West Coast-inspired meals. On all flights exceeding 1,100 miles, passengers in Main Cabin and Premium Class may pre-order freshly cooked wraps or Alaska’s Signature Fruit and Cheese plate, with packed snacks available on shorter trips.
On flights exceeding 400 miles, all cabins will have full beverage service again, including bottled water, individual cans of Coke, Starbucks Coffee, Teavana Tea, craft beer, West Coast wines, and premium spirits.
“We’re thrilled to welcome our guests back on board and hope they have a wonderful day with us,” said Todd Traynor-Corey, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of guest products. “We’ve given a lot of thought and preparation to securely introducing more food and beverage service on our flights while returning to our customers’ favorite fresh and local menu items.”
What’s Hot Right Now
The following are some of Alaska’s most recent in-flight food and beverage enhancements:
—Extended First Class hot meal choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner service on mainline flights exceeding 1,100 miles. On all meal flights, there are three menu options. Guajillo Chile-Lime Salad with ancient grains, roasted broccoli, and sweet potato is one of the current seasonal meals, as is Miso Marinated Cod with sesame garlic farro, sautéed yu choy, bell peppers, and shitake mushrooms in a sesame-miso butter sauce.
—On trips longer than 670 miles, full tray service with Schoenwald porcelain and biodegradable linen and silverware has been reinstated in First Class.
—A complete variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks is provided in all cabins, with several cart services available on flights over 1,100 miles. Fremont Brewing’s craft beers are available aboard, as well as Kona Longboard Island Lager, a new summer choice. Broken Earth Winery in Paso Robles, California, and Canoe Ridge Vineyard in Columbia Valley, Washington, have selected a range of West Coast wines especially for the airline.
—More snack choices are now available on shorter trips of 670 to 1,099 miles. The popular Northwest Deli Picnic Pack, which includes Deep River potato chips, Old Wisconsin Turkey Stick, Madi K’s Whole Natural Almonds, Gilman White Cheddar Cheese Stick, and Mandy’s Dark Chocolate Cookie Thins, has been reintroduced, and can be purchased on board with a credit card or stored form of payment, or pre-ordered online up to an hour before departure.
—Using Alaska’s industry-leading pre-order service, which is available through the airline’s mobile app or online, you may purchase your favorite food and beverage choices ahead of time. Guests in First Class and Main Cabin may choose their meals up to two weeks in advance of their trip and up to one hour before departure. For the popular Fruit and Cheese Platter, pre-ordering is recommended.
—First-class passengers get completely recyclable, box-shaped cartons of crisp, clear water that has been multi-filtered via an unique eight-step purification process. Each carton is individually packed and sealed with a plant-based cap produced from responsibly sourced trees.
Alaska Airlines continues to work closely with epidemiologists and internal safety experts in the implementation of new food and beverage offerings on board its aircraft, with safety always being the first priority.
Keep in mind that the federal mask requirement, which compels passengers to wear masks that cover their nose and mouth for the duration of their trip, is still in effect. Guests are allowed to remove their masks for a short while when eating or drinking, but must follow Alaska’s instructions: “After you sip or nibble, please put your mask back.”
